New two-years project within the Erasmus+ Programme starts today – Exchange of youth leaders in International Voluntary Service
More than 18.000 volunteers experience the richness of diversity by an active hands-on interaction with 1500 local communities around the globe in 1500+ workcamps. These workcamps are conducted by workcamp leaders, organized by voluntary service organisations in partnership with local communities.
The project XCHANGE explores a new trend in the 100-years old International Voluntary Service (IVS) movement as a response to a common challenge of decrease in number of workcamp leaders – exchange of youth leaders among international partners.
During 2017, 20 youth leaders from 9 countries will be trained and then sent to practice abroad, where they will lead international workcamps. They will be in charge of coordination of a group of approx. 15 volunteers coming from all over the world, and they will be planning a meaningful voluntary work with local hosts in 20 small communities.
Workcamp is a 100 years old tool of youth participation to intercultural dialogue and peace and a unique and lifechanging experience. We hope this project will pilot a new practice in IVS movement, which will support workcamps to stay relevant and recognized among young activists for its immense impact to all actors involved in its realization across 1500+ local communities worldwide.
The project XCHANGE is supported within the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, KA2 Capacity building in the field of youth. It gathers 13 organisations. 11 partners are members of Alliance of European Voluntary Service organisations and one (Croma, Italy) brings an added value to the project with its specific profile of members – documentary film makers / youth workers. The involvement of the Alliance as a formal promoter assures wider visibility but also certified trainers in non-formal education with expertise in trainings of youth leaders in IVS projects.
The project XCHANGE is inter-related and co-financed with the project “National youth volunteering programme YOUTH RULES 2017” supported by the Ministry for youth and sport of the Republic of Serbia.
